The Atlas Upland is basically a purpose-built approach tool for snowboarders who would rather chase terrain than go snowshoeing. Strap them on to bootpack a couloir, climb back up to a backcountry booter, or punch up the avalanche barriers beside a Japanese highway to reach a pillow line. The compact 19-inch platform keeps them light, quick underfoot and easy to throw on a pack once the riding starts.
Its composite deck provides useful flotation and grip while keeping the pair light, and the simple strap system works with most winter footwear, including snowboard boots and ski boots. A single pull-to-tight strap, adjustable heel position and EZ buckle make entry and adjustment straightforward, while the field-repairable strap adds some reassurance when you are out of bounds. The rockered tail helps them move more naturally through the snow, and the compact platform keeps them easy to carry when strapped to your pack.
