In Victoria and New South Wales, it’s a legal requirement to carry snow chains when heading to most alpine resorts — including Mt Buller, Falls Creek, and Mt Hotham. Failing to do so can get you fined, or worse, leave you stuck on the side of the road in whiteout conditions whilst everyone with chains passes you and gets to the goods.
